Friends who come to South Korea for vacation usually have very clear goals: either they want to visit the “holy sites” of K-pop, or they are interested in experiencing authentic South Korean cosmetic treatments.

However, nowadays there are so many recommendations on the internet that it’s really hard to know whom to trust. In fact, after looking at them for a while, it can become quite frustrating.
So, instead of blindly following various promotions, it’s better to learn how to make your own judgments. I’ve compiled a small guide, more geared towards “self-protection,” to help you in Seoul identify relatively reliable medical beauty institutions and avoid potential pitfalls.
01 | First, clarify your own needs
In South Korea, Dermatology can be roughly divided into two categories: one is the “assembly-line-style Dermatology,” and the other is the “one-on-one Dermatology.”

“Assembly-line Dermatology”
- The person who conducts the in-person consultation is not necessarily the same person who will perform the procedure for you.
- Typically, it is the team leader (who plays a more sales-oriented role) who will communicate with you first.
- In practice, many basic procedures are often performed by younger doctors.
- After the treatment, there is usually not much follow-up or attention given afterwards.
This type is more suitable for standardized treatments such as basic skincare, laser treatments, and Botox injections.
“One-on-one Dermatology”
- The doctor who conducts the in-person consultation is the one who will actually perform the procedure for you.
- The treatment plan will be customized according to your skin condition and needs.
- After the procedure, one is usually concerned about the recovery process.
⚠️ A small reminder: If a servic
e claims to be one-on-one, but in reality, it is still conducted by the room manager, I personally do not recommend such services.
02 | First, make sure you have these two apps ready.
1️⃣ NAVER
When coming to South Korea, it is essential to have Naver – it functions like a combination of the Chinese review platform Dianping and a map service.

You can use it to search for Dermatology and immediately see the relevant information.
- Nearby clinics
- Actual photos
- Authentic reviews
- Ratings and business information
After taking a liking to a particular option, you can
directly make a reservation. If you don’t have a Naver account, you can also ask someone to make the reservation for you (or send me a private message; I can help you with that for free).
2️⃣ Papago
Papago is a locally developed translation app in South Korea, and it is sufficient for basic communication purposes.

If you arrange for a local guide or translator in advance, the entire process will go much more smoothly. Whether
it’s making an appointment, having a consultation, or confirming the prices, you’ll feel much more at ease.
(If you need a local guide or translator, you can also send me a private message to inquire.)
03 | How to choose a Dermatology department in practice?
✔ Read reviews
Checking ratings and reviews on Naver is a basic skill. If you have already identified several
potential options, you can also explore community platforms to read more actual testimonials and sharing experiences.
However, there is one thing to no
te: 👉 If you come across posts with very similar copywriting or identical photo styles,
it is likely that these posts are advertisements.

✔ Check the prices
In South Korea, most Dermatology clinics clearly display their prices, which are the same as those in China.
The normal process would be as follows:
- First, assess the condition of your skin.
- I will also recommend a treatment plan that suits you best.
- Before the treatment, the final price will be confirmed.
This step is extremely important; it is essential to clarify all details before proceeding.
✔ Find the right local guide/translator
If you are not familiar with the medical beauty industry or are concerned about language barriers, having a reliable local guide can be of great help.
A good local guide can help you with the following:
- Clearly state your requirements
- Confirm the project and the price.
- Provide assistance regarding post-operative precautions
- Identify which options are relatively questionable.
Some of them can even help you avoid unnecessary additional fees.
Finally, a few final remarks…
Choosing a Dermatology specialist is not necessarily difficult – as long as you do your homework thoroughly and find the right person, your chances of success are already 50%.
I suggest you:
- Before setting off, check the reviews on NAVER first.
- It is essential to clearly confirm the prices and details of the services on-site.
- If something doesn’t feel right, just leave – there’s no need to feel embarrassed at all.
If you really don’t feel like doing the research yourself or are worried about language barriers, hiring a reliable local guide or translator can be a very convenient solution.
I hope this little guide will help you have a wonderful ti
me and look even more beautiful while in South Korea.
